| Marie-José was able to take advantage of the Cypress Bowl Beach Pass. For only CAN $ 99.00 until the end of the season ... so stay until the midst of April. | ![]() |
Starting in the morning, MJ spent some time with Ton's computer and planned the day using some touristic lecture. Also checking her own email became available in a sudden. Whoosh.
In the afternoon shopping at the Lonsdale Quay Market was a good way to start the afternoon. It was raining a little and skiing was out of the question today. So ... let's spend the day in downtown Vancouver and take the SeaBus to get there. Out of curiosity MJ watched the left over of last night's fire, shopped in Gastown and visited the world famous Steam Clock (one of a kind steam powered clock located in the heart of Vancouver's colorful Gastown area) and Gassy Jack in Gastown.

The view over rainy - what else do you expect in February - Vancouver at Harbour Centre was gorgeous, but the elevators were scary. After taking the SeaBus back to North Vancouver and chatting with Eline we made dinner (sauerkraut with "rookworst") and spent the night at home.
In the morning, MJ joined Eline at the CN IMAX theatre (situated at Canada Place, home of the Vancouver Trade & Convention Centre, Cruise Ship Terminal and the CN IMAX Theatre) watching a new released computer animated movie called "Trill Ride: the science of fun". After that, shopping at Sinclair Shopping Centre and lunch with Ton (sushi ... which was better the second time, after the first sushi box was too spicy). In the afternoon Eline and MJ took the bus to Granville Island. At 6 PM Eline, Ton and MJ went skiing at Cypress Mountain. The snow was in excellent condition (21 cm. of new snow last night) and the weather too ... clear skies and a few degrees below zero. Frans Luit joined us.
In the morning: doing the laundry and the daily email check. Marie-José missed the shuttle bus for skiing in the afternoon at Cypress Mountain. So, she went to the Olympic swimming pool in downtown Vancouver by SeaBus. After spending some time in the water she walked at the beach, watched the beautiful sunset at English Bay with the cargo ships in the background and took the SeaBus back to North Vancouver. There Ton was just 1 ride ahead of her and he waited for her to shop for groceries at the Lonsdale Quay Market. Eline and MJ cooked dinner and in the evening we all watched "Nine months" (movie was on TV with Hugh Grant, 1995).
Picked up the pictures from the photo shop. Skiing at Cypress Mountain during the day (new snow). On the way back MJ double checked some sale prices of ski gear at the Park Royal mall. Dinner at the "Cloud 9" revolving restaurant at 7 PM with Eline and Ton. We had a great view over Vancouver with clear skies and unlimited visibility.
In the evening: We prepared everything for tomorrow morning, when we had to leave early in the morning for a great weekend of skiing in Whistler, the no. 1 ski resort of North America. It is located 130 km. north of Vancouver.
06.15 hrs: Departure from North Vancouver, via Park Royal Mall (where we picked up Nick Levens with his 4x4) and a coffee break (one in West Vancouver and in Squamish) to Whistler. The weather was excellent on the way to Whistler, also known as the "Sea to Sky Higway".

09.00 hrs: Meet rest of our group (Andrew Lawson and Frans Luit) at the Excalibur gondola in Whistler. Unfortunately we missed some of the group we should meet here. They were not able to make it in time. We spent the morning by skiing on Blackcomb Mountain. The most beautiful part was skiing the glacier. The weather was perfect, little bit of clouds, not cold and excellent snow.

Lonely girl. Help ... nobody around. Marie-José at Blackcomb Mountain (Horseman T-Bar in the background). |
12.30 hrs: Lunch on Whistler Mountain restaurant (Pika's restaurant). Soup and beer while enjoying the outside terrace.
16.00 hrs: We slowly went down Whistler Mountain and had some drinks (with nacho's) at the bottom of the mountain at the Garibaldi Lift Company (LTC).

Eline and Ton had to check in at the Glacier Lodge (Whiski Jack Resort) Evening: Marie-José, Eline and Ton will stay at the Whiski Jack Resort for 2 nights (Saturday-Monday). In the meantime Andrew and Frans drove back to Vancouver while we stayed in Whistler with Nick Levens. Late in the evening we went to the apartment for a drink. Nick slept in his 4x4 and we all called it a day early (10.45 PM) ... it was a long day.
Second day of our ski weekend in Whistler. MJ met Nick at Blackcomb Mountain while Eline and Ton had to go to a time share presentation. They joined us at 1 PM at the top of the Jersey Cream Express. We stayed on Blackcomb Mountain whole afternoon and had a great time on 7th Heaven. Nick left us at 4 PM and we stayed for a dinner at the Brew House.
Our third day in Whistler. After an extended breakfast we checked out and went shopping in the village for some new ski-gear (turtle neck, ski straps and gore-tex gloves). On the way back to Vancouver we stopped in Squamish for a quick snack at McDonalds's and we also stopped at the old B.C. Mine Museum. A little further towards Vancouver we also had a quick stop at the Shannon Falls, before we headed back to Vancouver, via Horseshoe Bay and the coast road through West Vancouver.
In the evening we went to the Silver City cinemas (opened in December 1997) in Richmond to watch Titanic on a huge screen with big sound. Eline and Ton saw the movie for the second time. A few days later, on 24-Mar-1998 the movie won 11 Oscars.
Marie-José went to the chiropractor in the morning for a treatment for her neck (she fell during skiing on Sunday). After the visit everything was fine again.
Eline had a day off today, so MJ spent the day with Eline: picking up the photo's at Totum Color (First Street), Holland Shopping Center in New Westminster and shopping at Save On Foods. And of course it was laundry time again. After that, Eline and MJ went "Creative In the Kitchen" meaning coocking for more than 3 hours in a row. But, at least we have our own Dutch "kroketten" now.
In the evening: Dinner ("zuurkool/rookworst") with a good Merlot wine, altered this web page and scanned pictures for this web page.
Marie-José spent the afternoon in downtown Vancouver, had lunch with Ron and shopped in Robson Street. Later in the afternoon she continued coockingfor tonight.
In the afternoon we had the special home coocked Indonesian dinner. Since yesterday Eline and MJ spent quite some time preparing it. Nick Levens received a special invitation, also Frans Luit was there. He was waiting for this special invitation for months. Adter the dinner we chatted and listened to some golden oldies. Counting the cans of beer was almost impossible and later in the evening we piled up the empty cans.

Ton, Frans and Nick are piling up the empty beer cans. The empty Heineken bottles are secretly hidden somewhere on the floor. |
We played the music until about 1 AM, and that unpleased the neighbours somewhat. Sorry, sorry 'bout that.
Took the mountain bike out of the dust, went down to the Lonsdale Quay Market and straight back up ... because it started to rain. So skiing is out of the question too ... so MJ took the bus to the Park Royal Mall in West Vancouver and did some souvenir shopping. In the evening she spent some time with Ton at the computer and we stayed home therest of the evening (watching TV and reading magazines, like "Nieuwe Revue" etc.).
Like almost every morning, Marie-José spent quite some time on the internet using Ton's computer, internet account and phone line. This was free until 3 PM, so why not use it? She subscribed for a free homepage at http://www.Tripod.com and the Libelle. The afternoon was spent at the Olympic swimming pool close to the Burrard Bridge. We met at 5 PM at Hotel Georgia where Frans Luit, ELine and Ton joined. After that we went for a great dinner to Italian Restaurant "Cin Cin", where we enjoyed a great Britisch Columbian "Merlot" wine.
Mountain biking with Frans and Ton in Stanley Park. We mounted the bikes on the car and met at Third Beach. We did one round around the park and ended with a hot dog at the beach.

From here we went to Frans' appartment. MJ brought her 3rd film to the 1 hour photo shop for development. During the 1 hour wait we watched Frans' vacation video. After we went home we had to wait for Eline, who worked today. We went up Cypress Bowl for skiing at night, but the temperatures where to high and it rained upstairs. The only thing we did was absorbing the Cypress Mountain menus (Quad Burger, Chicken Sizzle and Pinach Salad) and went backto North Vancouver. Back home we decided to go to the movie "The Man in the Iron Mask", just premiered yesterday. Players where Leonardo DiCaprio (played Jack Dawson in Titanic) and Gerard Depardieu.
Marie-José, we had a great time together and it was a great pleasure having you here as our guest. We hope to see you soon again in Vancouver. We had a lot of fun. Thank you for being here.
