Picture Date Description
Tu 19-Nov-2002 The morning, afternoon and evening before Sjoukje's second arrival in Vancouver it rained constantly. It actually stopped only 1 hour before she arrived.
We 20-Nov-2002 00:20 Ton expected the bus to arrive at the bus terminal. When a Greyhoun bus arrived, Sjoukje was not in it. After asking the driver many times, he finally told Ton that they may be another bus arriving from another company ... not all hope was lost.
We 20-Nov-2002 00:20 Welcome flower from Sjoukje's bouquet.
We 20-Nov-2002 02:00 Still waiting at the train and bus station in Vancouver.
We 20-Nov-2002 02:39 Finally! There is the TrailWays bus from Seattle. This ends Sjoukje's trip from San Francisco-Seattle (train) and Seattle-vancouver (bus) which now took her 31 hours including a 2 hour delay.
We 20-Nov-2002 03:00 Some orange juice and time to put some laundry in a bucket of water in Ton's kitchen.
We 20-Nov-2002 03:00 Sjoukje had a hand painted gift for Ton (how sweet). It is called leatherbrush art (see explanation below). What a great gift. Thank you so much, Sjoukje.

The T has two birds which symbolizes happiness, the O has a whale for peace and the N a dragon for power.

We 20-Nov-2002 16:42 Sjoukje and Ton went to Grouse Mountain for the view of the Greater Vancouver area, watching the movie "Born to Fly" and have dinner at the Observatory fine dining restaurant. Sjoukje is entering the Grouse Mountain Gondola here.

Fr 22-Nov-2002 15:25 Also known as the Squamish Highway/Highway 99, this scenic highway runs from Howe Sound, winding steeply north through glacier-carved peaks and mountain communities. Many historical and recreational attractions can be found, such as golfing, hiking, mountain biking, scuba diving and windsurfing. You can visit Indian archeological sites, copper mines and ghost towns. Some of Canada's most challenging rock climbing and river rafting can be found along this route. First settled centuries ago by the Salish people, the Sea to Sky region was later inhabited by Europeans arriving during the Fraser River gold rush. Their settlements now include the vibrant towns of Britannia Beach, Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton and Lillooet.

Sa 23-Nov-2002 11.19 Today's was Sjoukje's first day on skis ever. Ton gave her some private lessons and considering the very poor snow conditions she did a great job.

Here were having a coffee break at Christine's Day Lodge restaurant on Blackcomb Mountain.

Sa 23-Nov-2002 11.25 Ready?
Sa 23-Nov-2002 11.59 Sjoukje is getting used to it. Very obvious is the high snow line in the background. There was actually not enough natural snow so artificial snow was blown on the runs to make it ski-able. You can also still see the rocks on this high altitude.
Sa 23-Nov-2002 12.47 Sjoukje is alternating the mountain slowly, but steady she goes. At the end of her first day she was making turns in a row.
